An important element of every Safety Management System is the regular inspection of the places where work is undertaken. Workplace inspections help prevent injuries and illness. Inspections are a shared responsibility between management and employees.
This is a necessary follow-up to the system of hazard identification, risk assessment and risk control that is the starting point of all preventive efforts of the Safety Management System and is described in Section 2 of this manual.
In defining the requirements for an Occupational Health and Safety Program, the Nova Scotia Occupational Health and Safety Act establishes a requirement for inspections, which is identified as one part of the hazard identification system:
“Section 28 (2) The program shall include
….
(e)(ii) procedures and schedules for regular inspections”
